September 10 - Geoff Achison

Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, he has developed a blues/funk style all his own that can be delicate one moment and explosive the next.  Unaware of how the sounds he was hearing on his limited record collection were produced, he invented some of his own techinquies - without the aid of pedals or gadgets.  Just watching him wrench a myriad of sounds from his simple set-up can be something of a spectacle.

 October

 October 1st - Nashville Ballet

performs The Singing Tortoise

In this West African folk tale, a hunter named Ama meets a magical singing tortoise. Once Ama befriends the tortoise, she tries to teach him that man is simply a visitor on earth who needs to respect all things. But Ama tries to exploit the tortoise's special gifts in order to gain favor with the people of his village. However, the tortoise has a plan of her own to teach Ama to learn his lesson the hard way. This cautionary tale features elaborate masks that represent animals and chieftains, choreography by Paul Vasterling, and is set to an infectious percussion score composed by Todd London.

Stay tuned for ticket prices and availability...

 November

November 5th - First Fridays - Wood & Strings Theatre

Out of the Mist a Dragon

Using elegant reproductions of the classic Bunraku puppets of Japan, a romantic drama unfolds that reaches into the world of myth and legend to portray a young man's journey of self-discovery. His encounters with traditional folk puppets from North America, England and Indonesia give exotic glimpses of puppetry styles rarely seen in this country.
